Nico Gonzalez expected to start in place of the suspended Sergio Busquets at the Estadi Montilivi
After impressing on loan at Valencia this season, Nico Gonzalez looks poised to make his first Barcelona start in Saturday's clash at Girona. Barcelona manager Xavi has confirmed that the La Masia graduate will deputize for the suspended Sergio Busquets at the Estadi Montilivi. "Nico has been playing very well at Valencia," Xavi said in a press conference on Friday. "He is a player with a lot of quality, and he is ready to play for Barcelona."Nico has made 28 appearances for Valencia this season, scoring one goal and providing two assists. He has been praised for his passing range, ball control and positional sense. He is a product of Barcelona's youth academy and was captain of the Barcelona B team, before departing for Valencia last summer. Xavi added that he is "very excited" to see Nico play in midfield alongside Pedri and Gavi. "I think they can be a very good combination," he said. "They are all young, talented players with a lot of potential." Barcelona will be looking to get back to winning ways against Girona, after their 1-0 defeat to Almeria last weekend.
