Miikka Kiprusoff's Jersey Retired by Calgary Flames
Kiprusoff Becomes Fourth Flames Player to Receive Honor
Finnish Goaltender Played Nine Seasons in Calgary
Miikka Kiprusoff, the Finnish-born NHL star who played nine seasons in Calgary, received the highest honor a player can receive on Saturday when the Flames retired his jersey.
Kiprusoff, 47, is a retired Finnish goaltender who played for TPS AIK, the San Jose Sharks, and the Calgary Flames in his career. He is the fourth Flames player to have his number retired, joining forwards Lanny McDonald (No. 9), Joe Nieuwendyk (No. 25), and Al MacInnis (No. 2).
Kiprusoff was a Vezina Trophy finalist five times and won the award twice, in 2006 and 2007. He also won the Jennings Trophy once, in 2006, for having the lowest team goals against average in the league.
Kiprusoff announced his retirement in 2013 after 10 seasons in Calgary. He finished his career with a record of 303-251-74, a .914 save percentage, and 61 shutouts.
The Flames will retire Kiprusoff's No. 34 jersey in a ceremony before their game against the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night.
