Indian Navy's INS Brahmaputra Catches Fire

Brahmaputra-class Frigate Suffers Major Fire During Maintenance

Investigation Launched into Cause of the Blaze

In an unfortunate incident on Monday evening, fire erupted aboard the Indian Navy's multi-role frigate INS Brahmaputra. The ship was undergoing maintenance at the Mumbai naval dockyard at the time of the blaze. The fire resulted in the vessel listing severely to one side, causing significant damage.

According to reports, a junior sailor remains missing in the aftermath of the fire. A thorough investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of the incident and ascertain the extent of the damage sustained by the frigate.

INS Brahmaputra is the lead ship of her class of guided missile frigates in the Indian Navy. She was built at the Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers and transferred to India from the Royal Navy, where she was originally designated HMS Panther.
