Jamilah Habsaoui, former mayor of Avallon, Yonne, has been taken into police custody after the discovery of 70 kilograms of cannabis at her residence on Sunday, April 7. The 46-year-old Habsaoui was elected mayor in 2021 after serving as a first deputy mayor for many years. She is a former member of the Socialist Party.
The sizeable drug haul was discovered during a search of Habsaoui's home. Law enforcement officials are currently investigating the source and intended distribution of the narcotics.
